The use of pocket cam on televised poker broadcasts has had a huge impact on the game. Television coverage exploded, and poker pros became celebrities. Let’s see who some of these poker stars are.

Daniel Negreanu is one of the most personable players in the pro game. He is best known for his uncanny hand reading skills. He has three WSOP bracelets.

Barry Greenstein is a great ambassador for the game. He is known as the “robin hood of poker” because he donates all of his tournament winnings to charity. He has collected two WSOP bracelets.

Mike “the mouth” Matusow, aptly nicknamed. He taunts and badgers players constantly. He is a well known poker player because of his outrageous mouth, but has two WSOP bracelets to back it up.

Phil Ivey is simply a superb poker player. Five bracelets seem to be the tip of the iceberg for this monster player. His composure, focus, and fearlessness at the tables are unmatched.

Doyle “dolly” Brunson has been there from the beginning. His book, Super System, is considered a bible for poker. He has won the world championship twice to go with ten total bracelets to his name.

Johnny Chan almost won Three WSOP Main Events in a row. His two Main Event titles and 10 total bracelets is an incredible feat. His role in the film Rounders, just added to the legend he had quickly become.

Scotty Nguyen is a WSOP Main Event champ. He made the famous statement “you call this, and it’s all over baby”, was called, and he was the champion. He added three other WSOP bracelets for a total of four.

Phil “the poker brat” is known more for his famous tantrums than his incredible WSOP record. He has won a record eleven bracelets and one world championship. His outrageous outbursts have been caught on tape, and are legendary.

Stu “kid” Unger is possibly the best major tournament player of all time. He won three WSOP world championships. Even more incredible, he won ten of the thirty tournaments with a $5,000 buy in or more. No one else has come close to something like this.

This is a very incomplete list, but gives you a taste of some of the poker greats that are idolized, or agonized (lol), by the poker world. They’re in our living rooms now, and the great poker stars have become part of mainstream culture. The celebrities love poker, and now the poker pros are celebrities.
