Are there players who make a living from online tournaments? Yes, there are players who make a lot of money in online tournaments. There are stats available, let’s see how they do it.
The first statistic that sticks out is how many tournaments many of these top players play. Here is an example that isn’t that unusual for a top player.
This is a lot of tournaments. If he plays 300 days of the year he would need to play over seven a day. This means that this player was playing a few events at the same time. This is typical for these top players.
One of the great things about playing so many events is that you go through the downswings faster, time wise. The hot streaks and bad beat sessions start to even out quicker. This helps you avoid a losing streak lowering your playing level.
One of the good things about playing so much is that you go through the ups and downs in a fairly short time. Your bad streaks are over in days or weeks instead of months or years. This is much easier to handle mentally.
The top players don’t get paid as often as you would think. They cash about 15% of the time. So, cashing is not the key. What these players do better than the average Joe?
They will take the risks, earlier in the tournament, to get a big stack that could get them a win. The top players understand that barely cashing isn’t big a deal. Getting into the final spots once in a while is how you profit.
Until you have a lot of results, it’s hard to know how good you are. The swings are big in MTT play, especially when you play in big fields. A big win, or ban run, will distort your results.
After you get enough results, you will see what you can expect from yourself. If you keep playing the same tournaments against the same level of opponents, you should maintain your level of profitability. Then you can start to know how much money you will make, on average, each month.
We see that most of the top players have a high volume style. In spite of this volume they keep ROI fairly high. Only the very high stakes players might do this a bit different.
So, are you ready for action? Do you have the skills to beat the good players? If you think you’re ready, get an education in bankroll management. This is what really can determine who the winners are.
