Have you noticed lately that everyone seems to be talking about the “good old days”? Almost every industry is going retro. There’s retro furniture and accessories, music jukeboxes, cars, jewelry, fashion, art. Even the music and food industries are going retro. This trend has been explained as a feeling of nostalgia for a return to the age of innocence, perhaps to escape the stress of a culture seeking to cope with our technology explosion. Everybody seems to have a sentimental yearning or longing for something past.

Labels like Nostalgia Gifts, retro cars, vintage furniture very definitely connect a person to that commodity before they actually see it. Just seeing or hearing that label automatically elicits a sensation of something from the past that promised comfort and safety, joy and happiness, and a place of refuge - no pain, no anxiety, just sweet peace. It’s a sweet although brief, relief from the cares of the day.

Think about it. You take a little whopping spree into your local mall and you stumble upon a vintage toy that takes you back to when you were just five years old and you find yourself reminiscing over those wonderful years when things were much simpler. Just those few moments of nostalgia can help relieve the strain of coping with the day’s trials and responsibilities and give a lift to your spirits.

I really think nostalgia gifts are wonderful gifts and much more fulfilling because they evoke so many enjoyable memories. So it is more than an instant gratification or just buying a gift because you think you need to. It is a gift that will take you back to different historical times in your life and allow you to relive them over and over each and every time yo glance at that music jukebox or hold it in your hands. Hey, every time I see a gum ball machine,it takes me back.

These special gifts can also be the answer to a very common dilemma, and you probably know what it is before I say it: the gift problem. In everyone’s life there is that person who is the bane of your holidays: the one most difficult to shop for. I had a sister who was very special, but she was also very particular with what she used, wore, ate or anything else that pertains to keeping alive and pretty. What do you do about birthdays and Christmas? To ask her was to get the reply: Just surprise me!

Well, a miracle shopper I’m not, neither am I a psychic! Now I know not all sisters are like this and certainly my mother and father were not. Their suggestions were often helpful but many times we missed it, and she let us know, not by words, but by her facial expressions. Somehow we always knew which gifts would be returned. And she’s never improved with age.

However, any one of the Nostalgia gifts, whether buying it for himself or receiving it as a gift, would definitely change the picture for gift buying. Can you imagine the look of surprise and pleasure on a father’s or husband’s face when he opens his gift and it’s maybe not his favorite tool, but better yet, it’s a retro style record player, radio, jukebox, or some other vintage gift, maybe even a popcorn machine?

Yes, fathers and husbands would no doubt be at a loss for words to explain their feelings as they were projected back in time by such a thoughtful and unique way of expressing your love. As you know, men, themselves are quite unique - and receiving a gift just as unique, would definitely keep them talking about it and showing it off for years to come. How about that music jukebox.
