For many years Bulgaria was a country renowned for a place where students were able to go on holiday on the cheap. But today this beautiful country is able to provide much more than cheap wine and is ideal for those who are looking for something a little different from their next holiday.

Many people choose to visit Bulgaria for one reason and one reason only and that is to spend time on its unspoilt beautiful beaches. Yet if you are feeling like you need a little bit more to do then why not consider spending time exploring the surrounding countryside either on horseback or hiking along one of the many well maintained trails.

When it comes to the weather in Bulgaria compared to other parts of Europe it is extremely temperate. Generally through the summer months it remains hot and dry, where as the winter ones are damp and cold. Ideally for those who want the best weather (not too hot or too cold) then visiting this country between April and mid June is highly recommended.

But for those that do like the sun then June through to September is the perfect time for holidaying in Bulgaria. Although this is also the height of the tourist season and so accommodation costs will rise and it’s crucial that book yours well in advance of your holiday dates. This is even more important if you choose to holiday at any one of Bulgaria’s Black Sea Resorts.

But if you want to see a different side of Bulgaria then you should try and arrange time to visit in September. This is when the trees are beginning to show their autumn colors and fruit and vegetables are in plentiful supply. Plus getting accommodation is far easier and the rates you will be charged will be a lot lower.

If you intend to go skiing because the resorts that Bulgaria now have are growing in popularity so booking well in advance is essential. The main ski season occurs in this country from the middle of December and can run through well into April, but this is dependent on what the weather has been like.

As for getting to Bulgaria this could not be any easier. Many of the major airports around Europe now have direct flights into the country to the airport at Sofia. The actual airline that is run out of Bulgaria is Bulgaria Air which took over from Balkan Airlines back in 2002. Also many of the budget airlines around Europe are now offering flights into Bulgaria as well.

If you intend to visit Bulgaria by car then you need to be aware that a tax will be levied on your vehicle as you cross the border into the country and as you leave again. So arrange to have plenty of small currency with you before you go.
