When people gain weight — they usually notice it around the mid-section first. The terms “spare tire” and “love handles” are often how people refer to their belly fat. Most people would love to get back to the good old days when they could have eaten anything they wanted and still maintained a perfectly sculptured mid-section.

The best way to lose your belly fat and love handles is not what you think. You see, many people think that thousands of crunches a day and hours on the treadmill are the answers to regaining the abs of their youth. Advertisers are all too happy to play on that way of thinking. How many times have you seen an infomercial about ab rollers and other expensive abdominal machines and videos? These items do nothing for your stomach in the sense of bringing out that flat firm cut look. Advertisers use models that have ripped stomachs in an attempt to lure you into buying their products.

The only way to bring that youthful flat stomach back is to lower your body fat percentage. You can do all the sit-ups and crunches in the world, but if you do not burn the fat around the belly, the abs would never show. When you are young and active, your body constantly burned calories, therefore, keeping the body fat percentage low. However, as we get older, we tend to slow down and that is how the belly fat and the love handles get the upper hand.

You need to understand that eating a well-balanced diet accounts for ninety-percent of the work. If you are like me, and have purchased many of the overpriced crap that was supposed to get me to abdominal bliss — then you know they usually send a little pamphlet in small print that says, “For best results follow a sensible diet”. This brings me to the point that I made earlier. They know that their machine is only ten-percent of the equation when it comes to the flat abs that you desire.

Joining a local gym and paying high monthly fees is not the answer either. Most people join gyms and lose interest after the first month. It is a well-known fact that people would prefer to work out in the safety and solitude of their own homes.

Exercise for love handles

In my opinion, the abdominal muscles are the easiest to train. I did not get the results I wanted until I changed my routine from doing hundreds of crunches a day to eating right and doing the right abdominal exercises.
