There seems to be so many ways to download TV shows that people become totally confused with how to do it. Many a times, folks miss an episode or two or wanted to catch a popular TV series but never got the chance to. This is where it makes sense then to download the shows so that they can watch them anytime. There are the video streaming sites, torrent networks, TiVO, P2P and paid download services that make these options available to you and me.

A direct and rather easy way to download TV shows is through TiVO. You will need to go to TiVO’s menu and play around with their Messages and Settings tab. Activate the Media Access Key and remember the number. This is the number you will use when you log into TiVO’s website to download the TiVO desktop 2.3. Install it and use the Access Key when prompted.

At TiVO, go to Manage My Account and look for the area where you can click DVR preferences. Then, tick the box for Allow Transfers Once the installation is complete, launch TiVO Desktop. Next, you have to click on Pick Recordings to Transfer.

Pick the program from the list that will show up and then click the Start Transfer option. The download may take hours, so ensure that no one will use the computer, as this may slow the process. After the file transfer or download is complete, click the Now Playing link or button and select the show you like to play.

It is not that challenging to download TV shows afterall right? This is but one way we mentioned only. There are several methods to do so and these shows come in various formats like DIVX, AVI, MOV, etc.

While it is convenient to find the television shows online, some websites are not legal so please exercise discretion in choosing a site to use. Other than that, you can also find products similar to Limewire to download. These are commonly called P2P, which are ideal for sharing shows that you find on other’s computers with their permission.

As always, it is best advised to avoid downloading from dubious sources. Be sure to look and scrutinize each website carefully. When using P2P, the only security you can depend on is your own computer’s security settings and the PC protection you have installed. Many sites are out to send viruses, adware and spyware to your computer to either spam you with advertisement popups or to spy on your surfing behavior. So, the golden rule is, do not download TV shows if the site is not a reputable one.

Other than TiVO, a good option these days is using a paid membership download site. It is not free but the fee you pay is probably less than $49 a month for unlimited TV shows and movies. At least you know for sure that you will not have any problem with insecured sites, virus-laden files, incomplete TV shows or even copyright issues.
