Architecture has come a long way since Marcus Vitruvius penned his famed De Architectura, two-plus millennia ago. He’d have loved today’s software that permits creation of 3D architectural renderings.
In the first century B.C., Marcus Vitruvius wrote the definitive tome, De Architectura (it’s still in use today, known as The Ten Books on Architecture). The ancient Romans and Greeks were known for their architectural prowess. So, is it any wonder the word “architect” is derived from two ancient Greek words meaning “master” and “builder”?
But shove over, Vitruvius! Gone are the days when draftsmen and architects hunched for endless hours over drafting tables, painstakingly adding detail after intricate detail to their architectural renderings.
Architecture no longer simply refers to a building’s exterior structure. Nowadays, it also relates to the interior environment and overall flow of a living space. If your building’s interior doesn’t live up to the expectations of its exterior, you may not be using your space to its best possible advantage. That’s when developers, realtors and architects know it’s time to consult a professional design firm to make valued recommendations.
But you shouldn’t trust just any firm - you need a company that can provide you with the most photorealistic architectural renderings modern technology can yield. You need a firm who can take convert CAD drawings to impressive 3D renderings that virtually leap to life.
A modern design firm will evaluate your space and work with you to create the interior that reflects your style and taste, while maintaining the existing overall architectural style.
You need someone who will undertake your project efficiently and with the flexibility to try new ideas, someone with a vision and capacity for spatial design. But all the ideas in the world don’t do a bit of good if you can’t see what the designer is envisioning for your space. You also need a design professional who can convert ideas to actual renderings - ideally, a professional who can provide animations and 3D visualizations and renderings.
And if your project involves an exterior rendering, you’ll want to use a firm whose staff possess the skills to make the fullest use of cutting-edge technology - especially when it comes to adding in the types of real-life environmental variables you’d expect to see in a valid representation of your exterior space - things like landscaping details, sidewalks, vegetation and people in motion.
But you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg. You want something cutting edge, yet cost efficient and practical. Oddly enough, a professional architectural design firm skilled in providing 3D renderings could be less expensive than a traditional design company that drafts with outdated software - or by hand.
Oh, and before you go and dismiss Vitruvius’ relevance to modern architecture, consider this: He was a true visionary. When De Architectura was published, lawn mowers and bulldozers were centuries from being conceptualized. Yet his first volume encompasses many subjects that now fall into the realm of landscape architecture. Say what you want about those ancient Romans but they were a visionary bunch!
