The Great Race: Long, occasionally ludicrous, often labored comedy, not the best ever made as promoted. Fight pattern and barroom fight are highlights, although the pie scene falls flat, and other gimmicks don’t work. This is absolutely a mixed bag, some parts good and some bad. The Hills Have Eyes: Common American family on a camping trip is pestered by brute, cannibalistic mutants. The film is above better than most like it, with compact direction and lots of entertaining twists and turns. An Incredibly gory film that has possessed a cult following. Cast includes Susan Lanier, Robert Houston, Virginia Vincent, Russ Mourn, Dee Wallace, Martin Speer, and Michael Berryman. (89 minutes,’77)

Follow Me Boys: A very corny Disney film in regards to easy going man who settles in tiny town during the’30s and starts Boy Scout troop, committing his life to this empowering pursuit. A little less jelly could have helped, although a little of it is finished with awesome conviction. Cast includes Fred MacMurray, Vera Miles, Lillian Gish, Charlie Ruggles, Elliott Reid, and Kurt Russell. (131 minutes,’66)

I Love You Alice B: Phenomenal comedy in reference to the panicking of a well-known and successful L.A. attorney. Peter Sellers puts on one of his best performances in this piece. The film was written by Larry Tucker and Paul Mazursky. Cast Peter Sellers, Jo Van Fleet, Leigh Taylor-Youthful, and Joyce Van Patten. (93 minutes,’68)

Amistad: This film is based on the true story of an unsuccessful mutiny aboard a slave ship in’39 bound for the US. The subsequent trial would put the entire foundation of the US legal system on trial. Three great men, abolitionist Theodore Joadson, lawyer Roger Baldwin, and former president John Quincy Adams fight for the freedom, and civil rights, of the African slaves.

Iron Will: Kid enters a Winnipeg-to-St. Paul dog-sled race in the WW1 era. The outcome is so predictable that you nearly anticipate everything that will happen from to start to finish. Cast includes Mackenzie Astin, Kevin Spacey, August Schellenberg, David Ogden Stiers, Brian Cox, George Gerdes, and John Terry. (109 minutes,’94)

The Prime Gig: Successful telemarketer Vaughn is enlisted by Harris for his boiler-room operation and becomes romantically engaged with Ormond. Fascinating inside view of swindlers in action, although Vaughn’s ambivalent personality flattens the film’s dramatic tightness rather than heightening it. Excellent acting jobs help. U.S. debut on cable Television. Cast includes Vince Vaughn, Julia Ormond, Ed Harris, Rory Cochrane, Wallace Shawn, Stephen Tobolowsky, George Wendt, and Jeannetta Arnette.(97 minutes, 2001)

The Three Muskateers: Musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis join young D’Artagnan in an attempt to stop Cardinal Richelieu, who is plotting to form an alliance with the English. The Musketeers are abandoned, and asked to throw down their swords. These three refuse, and along with D’Artagnan will try and save France.

Madagascar: A fun animated family comedy. When Marty the zebra decides he wants to see the world from outside the zoo, the penguins help him escape. Marty is gone, his friend also breaks out to find him and bring him home. Once out, they are captured by well meaning humans and shipped to Africa, to be returned to the wild. They miss Africa, and wind up on the magical island of Madagascar.
