Migraines are often characterized by symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, tingling sensations, pain, and sensitivity to light and sound. This is a condition that can effect every area of your life and hinder you from being able to function normally. At least 10 to 15% of all Americans are living with migraines. Prescription drugs are an option that work for some, but not for all. It seems that the medical industry really does not know how to treat this illness. Even if you have found a medicine to effectively treat your migraines, you are likely suffering from other side effects. These drugs also wear off quickly and can be addictive. If this is the case for you, perhaps you are interested in finding a more natural migraine cure with no side effects.

Taking care of your body and keeping it in a healthy state is likely the most important thing you can do to prevent migraine headaches. Here are a few natural things you can do to help get rid of this condition:

1. Drink Water. It is a little known fact that dehydration is a major headache trigger. The recommended daily amount is eight to ten glasses, and you should be drinking this much if you are trying to reduce the occurrence of migraines. Also avoid caffeine, smoking, and alcohol, as these will quickly dehydrate your body.

2. Eliminate or Lower Stress. Stress puts your body in a sickly state that is at risk for illness. If you do suffer from migraines, stress is almost positively a contributor in some way. Make your life more simple and do what you must to lower stress.

3. Avoid Chemicals. MSG, Aspartame, and phenylkentoneurics, are just a few that you need to avoid consuming. If you are serious about getting rid of your migraines, you will greatly reduce your intake of all processed foods, as these are high in chemicals and additives.

4. Exercise regularly. Exercise can work wonders for your body. It can help reduce stress, and make you feel better all around.

5. Consume vitamins, nutrients, and herbs that are known to help with migraine attacks. Research has proven that there is a link between vitamin deficiencies and migraines. The most important vitamin to make sure you are getting a good intake of is magnesium. A deficiency in this vitamin will bring about headaches and contribute to migraines. Riboflavin is another vitamin that is important to intake. As far as herbs, Feverfew and Butterbur has been taken for years to reduce headaches. There are many who claim these to be the best cure for migraines. Native Americans have been taking Butterbur for years to reduce headaches.

The cause of migraine headaches is not entirely known, although some factors are recognized which play into it. Migraine headaches also affect different people in different ways. Remedies, both natural and man-made will also affect people differently. You must experiment with the available remedies and find the path that will best alleviate your pain and improve your daily living by reducing your migraine headaches.
