Lately I feel like life is just a whirlwind! In other words, folks, there’s barely enough time to breathe, much less keep in touch with the people I love. The fact is, though, I miss my family so much that talking about ‘em makes me teary-eyed.

You see, folks, I grew up as the oldest of five kids in Memphis, Tennessee, plus there were five first-cousins right across the street. We all rode our bikes to grade school together, went to Sunday Church together, even spent our vacations tent-camping together. Basically we were just one, humongous southern clan of ten kids, two mamas, two daddies and two refrigerators.

The recent rises in petrol and diesel prices at the gas station forecourts has been astonishing. Every day when I drove past my local supermarket, the price had gone up by another 1, 2 or 3p per litre. Although it has now fallen back from the highest price of 132.9 pence per litre (that is about $12 per gallon!), it still means that my husband and I do not drive as much as we used to. And the kids are unhappy because we cannot afford as many days out at weekends.
